ワニを最後まで読者を引き付ける小道具にしているところがうまい。ただ、結末は期待外れ。あんなにいじめられている「あたし」はどうしてあんなに冷静でいられるのか読者を納得させていない。

ナイフ

父親がナイフを持つ動機が不鮮明。真司がいじめにあっていても、あまり悩んでいない点が理解できない。真司の人柄・性格が不透明。

キャッチボール日和

話が自然に流れていく。無理がない。ごつごつしていない。好美が本当に語っているよう。男性作家が女子中学生になりきるのは筆力が要求される。
ただし、大輔の父親が、先生がいるのに教室で派手な立ち回りをするが、こんなことはあり得ない。作り話だとみえみえ。

　　Munro’s description of the characters (Royce, Grace, Avie, Hugo) is superb. Writers should know their characters 100 percent. Otherwise, they cannot let them act in the story. Perfect grasping of the personal history of each character is also demanded. 　　The Royce-Grace relation is replaced with the Royce-Avie relation after Hugo’s death many years later. The moment Royce sees the Niagara Escarpment is his axis. He changes his course of life at that moment.
