The Case for and Against Love Potions
Imbolo Mbue is a native of Limbe, Cameroon, and a graduate of Rutgers and Columbia Universities, Mbue lives in New York.
The writer is clever because she attracts the reader with a "love portion" as a MacGuffin.
The writer presents two examples which use the effect of a "love portion": Wonja uses it in a wrong way and ends up with becoming mad while Gita wins her husband Ikolo by using the love portion.
The two are well balanced.
This is a humorous and amusing fairy-like story.
This story seems to be meant to children, but it was published in "New Yorker." I don't know why. The message it has is great enough to be published in a well known magazine?
