THE WILD NET Eudora Welty

Although I failed to grasp the theme of this fiction, I enjoyed reading it. Some of the key points are:

1. The beautiful and vivid description of the scenery
2. All the characters are well described so that the reader can grasp each individual.
3. A pleasant atmosphere (not pessimistic, even William Wallace) despite the failure to drag Hazel’s body.
4. The writer did not describe William’s disappointment clearly. Even he seems to be enjoying fishing.
5. What happened at the beginning? How could she hide from William? Why didn’t she stop him from asking help?
6. The ending is impressive: “And after a few minutes she took him by the hand and led him into the house, smiling as if she were smiling down on him.”
