小説創作の典型的技法が用いられている。

収束が出来すぎるぐらい巧くできており、感動した。
台詞は全部大阪弁で、商売人の味がよく出ている。
銀二貫があちこちに登場する。（一本通っている）
応募作は新人賞を獲れなかったが最終選考まで残った。高田郁の文才は大したものだ。応募作と改訂版は何処をどう直したか。
寒天製造過程を見ないで作品を仕上げた周到さに驚いた。
Graham Green wrote the novella “The Third Man” before he wrote the screenplay.
The plot of
the novella is quite different from that of the movie. The biggest difference lies
at the last scene. In the movie, while Martins stands at the roadside waiting
Anna approaching him. Coming close to him, Anna never pays any bit of attention
to Matins but just walks away on and on. That makes a memorable scene. However,
she behaves differntly in the novel:
I [Major Calloway] watching him [Martins]
striding off on his overgrown legs after the girl [Anna]. He caught her up and
they walked side by side. I don’t think he said a word to her: it was like the
end of a story except that before they turned out of my sight her hand was
through his arm….
松本清張の時代推理小説を初めて読んだ。
出だしから面白い。二人の死体が川から上がり、事件がどんどん展開していく。岡っ引の藤兵衛が事件を捜査するが、同心に手を引くように言われ、十手を返す。事件は大奥の美代の女中・浦風や寺の善了坊主や徳川家斉、奉行所などを巻き込んだ大掛かりなものとなる。最後の二ページぐらいで種明かし（巧く対話形式にしてある）をするが、種を聞けば、余りにも呆気ない。どの推理小説もそうだろうが、種明かしでなんだか、がっかりする。清張の時代考察は念がいっており、江戸時代の捕物の背景をよく調べている。また、話しの展開が巧い。人物の心理描写や、事件のあらましとまとめをうまく取り入れている。
半田の酢を創業した三代にわたる中野又左衛門の物語。酒屋の酒粕から粕酢を考案し、酢を醸造酒の仕事から切り離し、酢の醸造にまい進した一代目、二代目が江戸鮨の酢を考案し、三代目がさらに発展させ、半田の村民のために水害を機に尽くした。
よく調べて執筆している。ただ、展開にデジャブ的な会話があり、真に籠っておらす、上辺だけで話を続けた感がある。特に先代が亡くなって行くとことなど。誰でも考えつくような対話が続く。また、『天涯の海』の舞台として奥の細道の地図が載せてあるが、あまり意味がない。二代目だったか三代目が奥の細道の行程を辿って平泉に行くが、その二十日間の旅の中身は三四行で終わってしまっている。帰ってからの旅の思い出話も紋切り型でつまらない。
最初の酒が焼けた場面からの出だしはいいが、あとが続かない。当時の言葉遣い（半田弁、江戸詞の使い分けがきちんとできていない。
野田醤油の発展の小説を考えているが、少しは参考になった。
どちらにせよ、山吹の酢が繁盛するようになった苦労話、三代目が地震と津波のあと、私財を投じて屋敷を作る辺りは読者を引き付けた。
「yomyom」に、２０１８年２月号～２０２０年６月号号（約二年半）かけて書いた。地下鉄の父と言われた、早川徳治の物語。早川がどのようにして地下鉄を東京に開通させ、どのようなトラブルがあったか、克明に描いている。大物財閥、や大物人材が登場する。五島慶太、大隈重信、渋沢栄一、佐藤栄作等。その大物に作中で話させるのは痛快だろう。地下鉄の開通にまつわる様々なエピソードを相当に読み漁って書いたことが伺える。
門井は「江戸を建てる」など、無から壮大な有を造り上げる小説を書いている。調べれば書けないこともないだろうが、会話とか状況とかの設定が難しい。
江戸醤油を売り込んだ高梨兵左衛門の話を考えているが、今のところ皆目見当が付かない
This is a very good short story. It depicts the transition of a girl (Lizabeth) from childhood to adulthood. A child is innocence. He or she hurts others without thinking about their feelings. Miss Lottie, who was called a ‘witch’ by her neighboring children, grows marigolds. Growing them was the only retreat from her dusty, harsh, ramshackle life. But, since Lizabeth destroys all the marigolds, she quits growing them. Lizabeth recognizes what she has done to Miss Lottie only after the destruction and observation of Lottie’s sad face. This is her moment of transition.
The story ends with this:
For one does not have to be ignorant and poor to find that his life is as barren as the dusty yards of our town. And I too have planted marigolds.
This is an interesting, amusing, and funny story. It is a collection of the episodes that describe the life of the protagonist, Holden Cadifield. He is 17 or 18 years old.
Each
episode is written in a casual and carefree way with a lot of colloquial expressions
and slangs. His episodes are about his friends, his teachers, his brother and
sister. What makes the story interesting is that he tells his true feeling about
the things he does or he says.
