Nocturnes Kazuo Ishiguro

It is nice that Ishiguro's English is not too difficult. He writes what he wants to write using easy words and easy sentence structures.

"Nocturnes" is a short story in which the protagonist, Steve, is hospitalized for his face-lifting. Fortunately or unfortunately, his next room lies a well known woman, Lindy Gardner, who also has face-surgery.

Kazuo describes the seemingly close friendship between Steve and Lindy. Steve  seems to be manupulated by her while she is hospitalized. She seems to use Steve just to kill time during the boring hospital life.

Lindy says she will help Steve to  be a famous saxophone player, but she doesn't. Immediately after Lindy's husband comes to her hotel, her attitude toward Steve changes; becomes distant.

The scene where Steve and Lindy tries to hide the trophy in the turk is funny. Also funny is the way they escape from the gurdmen's suspision.

What does Ishiguro wanted to say through this novel? It is not so clear. Just an entertainment?
